About Bodywhys

Bodywhys is the national voluntary association for people affected by eating disorders. Bodywhys provides support, information, understanding and a listening ear. People can talk to Bodywhys without fear of judgement, regardless of their age or gender and at any stage of their eating disorder. The Bodywhys website www.bodywhys.ie contains detailed information about eating disorders, including free resources for parents, general practitioners (GPs) and a self-help booklet for binge eating disorder.

Who can contact Bodywhys?

Anyone who is concerned about eating disorders can talk to Bodywhys. This includes people with eating disorders, parents, siblings, partners or friends.

What happens when you contact Bodywhys?

If you contact the Bodywhys helpline 1890 200 444 or email support service alex@bodywhys.ie, a trained Bodywhys volunteer will listen to your concerns and talk you through your experiences. In our support groups, and online support groups, individuals find mutual support in the group setting and discuss a range of topics in a safe and supportive environment. All of our support services are underpinned by a pro-recovery ethos.

Taking the first step

Eating disorders can have a profound impact on a person’s life quality of life as well as their physical and mental health. Bodywhys recognises that the thought of getting help can feel very frightening, but it is an important first towards recovery. People can and do recover from eating disorders.
