The Oesophageal Cancer Fund (OCF) is a registered charity governed by a board of trustees, which has grown to be the national voice representing oesophageal cancer in Ireland. We do not receive any Government funding and rely on the generous support of our loyal volunteers and schools around the country.
Our aim is to raise awareness of the symptoms related to oesophageal cancer, provide funding for research into the disease and help improve the outcomes for people dealing with cancer.
Our main fundraising event is our annual Lollipop Day which takes place on Friday 23rd & Saturday 24th February 2018. A lollipop is the emblem for our campaign and highlights the most common symptom of suspicion of oesophageal cancer – difficulty swallowing. On this day students around the country volunteer to sell lollipops in their local community/school to help promote awareness of the symptoms of oesophageal cancer.
Students who wish, will receive a Certificate of Appreciation for their End of Year Portfolio. The OCF can, where possible, arrange for a speaker to talk to the students about the impact of their participation in Lollipop Day. Participation will help build self-confidence, develop new skills such as communications and team work, build capacity to take responsibility and enhance the role as active citizens.
