Third Age Foundation CLG

Third Age National Office Summerhill, Co Meath

Third Age is a non-profit organization committed to providing services throughout Ireland which help to alleviate social isolation primarily among older people, and which reach people of every generation. We provide choices for older people and offer opportunities for lifelong learning, volunteering, community development, social inclusion and strive to break down barriers, promote equality and challenge attitudes and perceptions.

As part of the Department of Communications initiative Getting Citizens Online Third Age has been delegated to deliver a section of the digital skills course, the overarching objective of which is “To provide citizens who have never used the internet with the confidence, motivation and skills to reap the benefits of participating in today’s digital world”.

Under this initiative, Third Age is committed to training 1,000 ‘non-liners’ in 2017 in the following counties: Meath, Kildare, Westmeath, Louth, Offaly, Wicklow, Monaghan and Dublin. Over 45’s are the profile of our participants with most being 65+.

Topics include, introduction to the Internet; email; video calling; Apps; online banking and shopping and elective options including Government online services.

This is an ideal opportunity for TY Students to work with older people, share their natural digital skills and for all to benefit from intergenerational interaction.
